FireFox OS :  will be finished next may, Mozilla for smartphones 



Mozilla stops costs, at least in the field of the smartphone. The Foundation announced today that stop the development of Firefox OS for smartphones by next May. This follows a decision dating back to last December, and announcing a turn to the Internet of objects

If Firefox OS is not called to fully disappear, otherwise for the case of smartphones running on this operating system. It is indeed known that Firefox OS will be mainly dedicated to the terminals connected (to the famous IoT), objects connected to the Smart TV. Smartphones, they will gradually be eliminated support for this operating system turned to entry-level terminals sold in emerging markets.

Mozilla said today its intentions. The firm Red Panda will therefore cease to develop Firefox OS after its 2.6 version, whose launch is planned for the month of May. But not only, since its Marketplace, i.e. its applications portal, will see all applications do not support Firefox OS, while compatible apps will be accepted until 2017. Not sure however that developers are scrambling, in these conditions, to offer new applications.

"These decisions are notable, no doubt. For the main reason that they allow to make sure that we focus our energy and our resources to bring the power of the web to the IoT. "And let us remember why we are doing this: we enter in this exciting space that fragmented to make ensure that users have the choice among open solutions and inter-operable, and to allow us to make us counsel for the security of private data", noted John Bernard, Director of connected objects of Mozilla, and his colleague throat Roter.
